Motorcycle Ride Information

The Snake Bite is Alternate Ride #3 of The Snake 421 motorcycle experience, expanding the adventure into an approximately 105-mile journey through the mountains of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. This extended ride combines thrilling curves, rolling countryside, mountain valleys, lakeside scenery, and several of the region’s most popular destinations. It is an excellent choice for riders who want to turn their time on The Snake into a longer half-day or full-day motorcycle adventure.

The route carries riders through the communities surrounding Mountain City, Shady Valley, Bristol, Butler, Elizabethton, Hampton, Bluff City, and Damascus. Along the way, riders experience a constantly changing landscape of forest-covered mountains, farmland, small towns, winding backroads, and sweeping Appalachian views. The road provides an enjoyable mixture of tight turns, elevation changes, relaxing straightaways, and long curves that flow naturally through the countryside.

Highlights associated with The Snake Bite include Watauga Lake, Watauga Dam, South Holston Lake, the historic Elizabethton Covered Bridge, downtown Bristol, and Bristol Motor Speedway. Riders can also visit the Shady Valley Country Store, explore the Mountain City area, or stop near one of the lakes to rest and enjoy the scenery. These attractions make The Snake Bite more than a technical motorcycle route—it is also a sightseeing journey through one of the most beautiful sections of the Appalachian Mountains.

With 105 miles of mountain roads, scenic waterways, historic communities, and exciting curves, The Snake Bite delivers a memorable extension to The Snake 421. Riders should allow plenty of time for fuel, photographs, food, and sightseeing while remaining alert for wildlife, changing weather, shaded pavement, gravel, and sharp curves. For motorcyclists looking for a longer adventure with a satisfying combination of scenery, attractions, and Appalachian riding, The Snake Bite is an alternate route that truly leaves its mark.
