The Snake 421 Motorcycle Ride is one of the most exciting and scenic motorcycle routes in Northeast Tennessee. The signature section stretches approximately 37 miles along U.S. Highway 421, carrying riders across three mountains, through one peaceful valley, and around an incredible 489 curves. Beginning near Mountain City, Tennessee, the road climbs into the Appalachian Mountains before winding through the beautiful community of Shady Valley and continuing toward Holston Valley and the Bristol area.

Riders can expect a thrilling combination of tight switchbacks, sweeping curves, elevation changes, wooded mountain passes, and short straightaways that provide a moment to relax before the next series of turns. Much of the ride passes through the Cherokee National Forest, surrounding motorcyclists with dense forests, mountain ridgelines, farmland, and impressive seasonal scenery. During autumn, the route becomes especially colorful as the mountains are covered in brilliant shades of red, orange, and gold.

Shady Valley is one of the most popular stopping points along The Snake 421. This quiet mountain valley provides riders with a place to take a break, meet other motorcycle enthusiasts, enjoy the rural scenery, and prepare for the next mountain crossing. The route can also be connected with Tennessee Highway 133 toward Backbone Rock and Damascus, Virginia, creating additional loops and longer riding adventures throughout the Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina mountains.
